11/21/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The St. Louis Blues will attempt to halt their home losing streak tonight, as they host the Anaheim Ducks at Scottrade Center.
The Blues are 4-4-1 as the host this year, but have dropped three straight and five of their last six in St. Louis. That includes a 3-2 shootout loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday.
Montreal's Alex Kovalev had the lone tally in the shootout, beating Blues netminder Manny Legace with a backhander under the crossbar.
Legace ended with 24 saves, as St. Louis lost for the ninth time in 11 games.
Steve Regier accounted for both St. Louis goals, the first two of his NHL career. The 24-year-old Regier, who was recalled from the team's American Hockey League affiliate in Peoria before the game, was playing in only his 19th career NHL contest. His previous 18 games were with the New York Islanders.
St. Louis will play without Andy McDonald, who suffered a fractured left leg in the first period of Sunday's game. The 31-year-old will not need surgery, but will miss the next eight weeks of action.
McDonald has six goals and 12 assists for a team-high 18 points in 16 games this season, his second with the organization. St. Louis acquired the forward from Anaheim on December 14 of last year.
McDonald's old team wrapped a six-game homestand on Wednesday with a 6-4 loss to Washington. The setback gave the Ducks a 2-3-1 mark on the residency.
Bobby Ryan contributed two goals and an assist for Anaheim, Ryan Getzlaf added a goal and an assist, while Corey Perry notched three assists in the loss. The Ducks now hit the road, where they have won five straight after dropping their first two as the visiting club to begin the season.
Coming off his first-career shutout, Jonas Hiller made his second straight start but was pulled after he allowed three goals on six shots. Jean-Sebastien Giguere finished with 24 saves.
Hiller was in net for Anaheim's 5-2 win over the Blues in early November, his first-career start against them. Giguere, who is 0-3-1 in his last four starts with a 4.26 goals against average, is 13-6-1 with a 2.23 GAA lifetime against St. Louis.
The Ducks have won three straight and nine of their last 12 against the Blues, but have dropped two in a row and six of their last nine in St. Louis.
Legace is 10-2-1 with a 2.04 GAA in his career against the Ducks.

Huskers' Lucky hospitalized for undisclosed reason
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska running back Marlon Lucky was hospitalized Monday for undisclosed reasons after Lincoln police responded to a call at his residence.
The Nebraska athletic department said in a release Monday that Lucky was admitted Sunday night.
MySportsbook.com has the Cornhuskers listed at +2500 to win the BCS National Championship odds.
A nursing supervisor at the hospital said all questions about Lucky were being referred to the athletic department. The athletic department said there would be no further comment from the department or Lucky's family.
A Lincoln Police spokesman said officers responded to a call at Lucky's residence 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The spokesman said he didn't know Lucky's condition at the time he was taken to the hospital.
Lucky, from North Hollywood, Calif., started six games last season as a sophomore and was the team's second-leading rusher, with 728 yards and six touchdowns. He also caught 32 passes for 383 yards. He averaged 19.1 yards on eight kickoff returns.

“You play to win the game!”
Those are the words of notoriously intense head coach Herman Edwards. Unfortunately, from a bettors’ perspective, most coaches don’t feel that way about the NFL preseason. August is a time to evaluate young players, finalize the depth chart and pray your star players stay healthy.
The trick to making money during the exhibition schedule is identifying coaches – like Edwards – who can’t stand losing even when there's nothing on the line.
The New York Jets betting won 15 of 21 preseason games and went 14-7 against the spread (ATS) during Edwards’s five-year tenure with the club. In his first season as the Kansas City Chiefs field boss, the team improved from 0-4 to 2-2.
Identifying win-a-holics like Edwards is a good start if you plan betting the preseason – even though most say you shouldn’t ... but what the hell do they know anyway?
Here’s a brief rundown of two teams that have a habit of winning during the second-stringers’ season, and another club that has a good chance of exceeding this year.
Playing in the media hub of North America can be stressful but the press can’t write anything negative about the way Tom Coughlin’s boys play in the preseason. The Giants won and covered all four games last summer, improving their record to 7-1 both straight up (SU) and against the spread over the last two years.
Coughlin has shown he’s not afraid to give his starters more time in the second preseason game than most of his colleagues, no doubt one of the reasons his team has been so dominant.
Bettors can count on America’s team early on. The Cowboys are 14-6 both SU and ATS since 2002 in warm-up contests. Former coach Bill Parcells, the coach of the team the last four years, has an intimidating, in-your-face presence – surely a reason Dallas has had so much early success.
The Big Tuna won’t be strolling the sidelines with looks of disgust, but new coach Wade Phillips will be anxious to make a good first impression for owner Jerry Jones.
Dallas plays the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos before things get serious. They then face the Houston Texans in their third contest (the game starters see most game time) and finish off with the Minnesota Vikings.
Expect a Dallas team able to walk away with another 3-1 preseason record.
This team scored a league-worst 12 offensive touchdowns last season, so the rookies and veterans each have something to prove. There’s a bounty of first-unit jobs up for grabs and plenty of bodies competing for those slots.
First-time head coach Lane Kiffin will be eager to impress an owner who employs the philosophy, “Just win, baby!”
The 32-year-old Kiffin has to command respect from a locker room full of players older than him. All of these factors should lead to purpose in preseason.
Don’t forget: before playing like a team that belonged in NFL Europe, Oakland went 4-1 (both SU and ATS) in exhibition games.
